The following pictures were
submitted by Michael McDermott who is part of the restoration
crew working on USS Hornet. They have been on board USS Holland
salvaging parts and equipment for Hornet as recently as March
2009 to further that project. Michael has been kind enough to
take and share with us over 90 pictures of Holland - both
outside and more importantly - inside - as pictures inside the
ship aren't very common. As fast as MARAD has been sending ships
to the scrap yards lately - this was an opportunity that might
not come along again - and we're very grateful to Michael for
his efforts on behalf of sailors he has never met - nor is he
likely too - just a very generous gift of one sailor to many
more! Thanks Michael - we salute you!

HMB-1 was originally used in
Project Jennifer, where the US raised a sunken
Soviet submarine (K-129) from the ocean floor.HMB-1 then
became the floating drydock where the proof-of-concept
stealthy ship Sea
Shadow (IX-529) was built.
Sea Shadow
is currently
stored inside and both vessels are available for dontation.
